What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a dental procedure that prevents the extraction of a deeply infected tooth. This treatment may be needed in cases where the tooth has developed or is about to develop a soft tissue infection.
The procedure is done under local anesthesia. The dentist proceeds to remove the pulp. Once the infected pulp is removed, the dentist fills and seals the canal, and places a dental crown to strengthen the tooth structure and protect it.
Benefits of a Root Canal
Root canal treatment helps relieve pain and inflammation, save your tooth, and limit more extensive dental work.
By removing cavities and bacteria, your dentist can stop the spread of infection and keep your tooth looking and wearing it better.
Most patients who have endodontic treatment experience little pain. With proper oral care, the treated tooth will be preserved.
